Matthew started working for Buset LLP in January on 2018, while completing his final year of law school. He started full time following graduation, and continued as an associate when called to the Bar at the end of September 2018.
Matthew obtained his Bachelors of Laws from the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law. Prior to that, he completed his Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Lakehead University.
Practicing law in Thunder Bay has always been a goal for Matthew. Born and raised in the city, he has seen the growth and potential for this wonderful city and will be a resolute advocate for the future of his community. Most recently, Matthew had the opportunity to help teach the St. Ignatius law class, and prepare them to run a criminal trial. With Matthew, Bryson Inglis, and Nataly Yousif all of Buset LLP coaching the St. Ignatius team, they took on the reigning champions from St. Pat’s at the annual law day event and won! The goal of the program is to inspire young adults to consider a career in the legal profession, and have firsthand experience of what it is like to be a lawyer.
Matthew’s practice focuses primarily on the area of Insurance Defence and Civil Litigation. Focusing primarily on Insurance Defence, Matthew has gained valuable experience from working with very experienced senior lawyers during his time as a student and as a lawyer, and has already had the opportunity to participate in trials, various motions, and settlement negotiations. We are very excited to have Matthew joining our team, and he looks forward to continuing his career at Buset LLP.
