Mike Maher HBA, JD
Mike’s practice is focused on helping the region’s people, businesses, and organizations overcome today’s problems and plan for tomorrow’s successes. Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Mike understands the benefits and challenges unique to living and doing business in the Northwest.
In addition to commercial and contractual disputes, Mike’s litigation practice involves a number of public law issues. These include proceedings under the Coroner’s Act, the First Nations Elections Act, and judicial reviews of administrative decision makers, like Band Councils, governments, and Election Officers.
As a solicitor, Mike carries on real estate transactions and leasing, advises on employment issues from hiring to firing, deals with buying, selling, and investing in businesses, and generally supports entrepreneurs from start-up to retirement.
Mike is passionate about issues that indigenous Canadians and their communities face. He routinely helps people and organizations on and off reserve craft unique solutions to business and public law issues.
Mike is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Law. While completing his JD he was the recipient of several awards highlighting his excellence in litigation, legal research and writing, labour and employment law, and community service.
Outside of the courtroom, Mike enjoys being involved in his community, cooking for friends and family, and playing board games.
