November 2, 2024 0 Comments

Sangey joined the firm as a law student while completing his Practice Placement and then as an associate lawyer following his Call to the Bar in 2024.

Sangey received his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, where he completed a double major in Philosophy and Political Science and graduated with Honours. Although originally from Toronto, Sangey fell in love with the City of Thunder Bay while attending law school at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law.

In law school, Sangey served as Director of the Asian Law Students Association and competed in the Walsh Family Law Moot & Negotiation. Additionally, he worked at a national law firm specializing in Aboriginal and Constitutional Law, where he assisted First Nations Bands and developed public legal education tools for Indigenous communities in Canada.

Prior to practicing law, Sangey worked on Parliament Hill as a Legislative Assistant to M.P. Garnett Genuis and the Federal Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development. In Ottawa, he worked on several federal policy and legislative initiatives, most notably assisting in drafting the federal government’s initial proposal for legislation regulating medical assistance in dying via Bill C-14. Sangey’s time in this role sparked his interest in legislation and advocacy and ultimately led him to pursue a career in law.

As an associate lawyer at Buset LLP, Sangey looks forward to applying his broad range of experiences and his passion for the law to provide meaningful service and develop strong relationships with his clients. He is committed to helping clients navigate complex legal matters diligently and carefully.
