Dawson Somerville HBA, JD
Dawson joined Buset LLP as a summer law student and completed her practice placement with the firm before returning as an associate lawyer following her Call to the Bar of Ontario in 2024.
She earned her Honours Bachelor of Arts in Law with a Minor in Business from Carleton University before obtaining her Juris Doctor from Lakehead University’s Bora Laskin Faculty of Law in June 2024. During law school, Dawson served as Vice President of Finance for the Bora Laskin Law Students’ Society, was a Dean’s Fellow, a tutor and the coordinator for the second-year Civil Practice course. She also competed in the Tort Law Moot Competition and has since returned to coach the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law moot team. Dawson’s dedication to her studies and her community earned her a place on the Dean’s List and, upon graduation, the President’s Award for her outstanding contributions to the faculty.
In addition to her academic and leadership roles, Dawson has been actively involved with the Ontario Bar Association (OBA) since law school, demonstrating her strong commitment to the legal profession and broader legal community. She currently serves as an executive member of the OBA’s Insurance Law Section and Women Lawyers Forum and is Chair of the Young Lawyers Division – North. She also holds positions on the OBA’s Provincial Council and the Board of Directors.
Dawson brings a holistic approach to her practice, combining academic excellence, leadership experience, and practical insight to provide thoughtful and effective advocacy for her clients.
