Kristi L. Burns BA, LLB

Kristi graduated from Lakehead University in 1994, and earned her Bachelor of Laws from University of Manitoba in 1997. Since her call to the Ontario bar in 1999, Kristi has practiced at Buset LLP in many areas, including family law; wills and estate law; and all aspects of real estate law from developments to financing, purchases and sales. She became a Partner at Buset LLP in 2022.

In addition to her law practice, Kristi has served the community of Thunder Bay by sitting on the Board of Directors of Children’s Centre Thunder Bay, an organization that supports children’s mental health in our city. She has offered seminars and educational presentations to other professionals and the public, and was formerly the Chair of the Thunder Bay Law Association’s committee for Continuing Legal Education.

Kristi currently focusses her practice on assisting clients experiencing the stress and uncertainty of separation, using her experience to negotiate a settlement agreement that works best for each individual and their family whenever possible. Kristi and her experienced team provide sound advice to help navigate challenging issues including support, asset division and parenting time with children. When there is no alternative, Kristi is an experienced litigator who can help to navigate the confusing and often highly emotional Court process. She also assists clients to negotiate other domestic agreements such as cohabitation (pre-nuptial) and marriage contracts, and acts as a family law mediator to support separating parties to build their own individualized resolutions.

Outside the office, you will find Kristi cheering on her children at their sporting events and musical performances, walking her enormous, unruly dog, and enjoying the remarkable beauty of her Northwestern Ontario home.
