Sangey Tsering BA, JD

Sangey joined Buset LLP as a law student and completed his Practice Placement with the firm before becoming an associate lawyer following his Call to the Bar in 2024.

Sangey earned his Juris Doctor from Lakehead University’s Bora Laskin Faculty of Law. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, where he majored in Philosophy and Political Science and graduated with Honours.

Prior to practicing law, Sangey worked on Parliament Hill as a Legislative Assistant to M.P. Garnett Genuis and the Federal Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development. He also served as a community organizer for immigrant communities in Toronto – organizing charity events and youth outreach programs for newly immigrated families.

In law school, Sangey served as the Director of the Asian Law Students Association and participated in mooting competitions, including the Walsh Family Law Moot & Negotiation. As a second-year law student, he summered at a national law firm specializing in Aboriginal Law and Constitutional Law, where he assisted First Nations Bands and developed public legal education tools for Indigenous communities in Ontario and Manitoba.

Throughout his Practice Placement at Buset LLP, Sangey assisted in a diverse range of legal disputes across all levels of court in Ontario, including Small Claims Court, the Superior Court of Justice, and the Court of Appeal. He has experience working on matters in multiple practice areas, including Insurance and Construction Law, Family Law, and Real Estate Law, among others. As an associate lawyer, Sangey is keen on continuing to assist and advocate for clients in complex legal matters.

Outside of his practice, Sangey enjoys keeping fit, trying new food spots with family and friends, and cheering for the Boston Celtics.
