Katy has a varied practice in litigation with a particular focus on insurance related cases. Katy joined Buset LLP as a first year law student in 2013, became an associate lawyer in 2016, and joined the partnership in 2022.
Katy has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario including the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal. She has also represented clients before courts of other provinces and various administrative tribunals including the Licence Appeal Tribunal and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.
Katy is a graduate of the charter class at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law where she earned numerous awards and achieved successive years on the Dean’s Honor Roll and third place overall standing. While at law school, Katy participated in the Wilson Moot and served as Editor in Chief of the Lakehead Law Journal. Since 2020, Katy has rejoined the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law as a clinical instructor in the second year Civil Practice course.
Katy is dedicated to her community and to her profession. She is a member of the E-hearings task force, the Superior Court of Justice Civil Working Group and the Board of Directors for the Ontario Bar Association. Katy also serves as an external governor at Confederation College, the Chair of Governance for the Board of Directors of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation and is a past president of Magnus Theatre. In 2020, Katy was awarded the Thunder Bay Law Association’s Service to the Community Award.
